Cameroon, endowed with abundant natural resources such as oil, gas, mineral ores, high-value timber, and agricultural products. The country's economy is poised for steady growth, with projections from the African Development Bank (AfDB) indicating that GDP expansion could reach 4.4% by the end of 2025.

Cameroon is actively advancing its renewable energy sector, with a significant focus on solar power and energy storage solutions. The government has set an ambitious target to develop 4 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2035, encompassing a mix of solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and battery energy storage systems.

The volume of investment in this strategic sector is bound to increase as several hydroelectric and photovoltaic projects come to maturation.

With regard to the rural areas in particular, Phase IV of the Project to Electrify One Thousand Localities with Solar Energy will continue. The same holds for the construction of 360 solar power plants in administrative units that are yet to be electrified.

REGIONAL TREND

Driven by solar irradiance often exceeding 5 kWh/m²/day, a rapidly growing energy demand, and supportive government policies, the solar and storage energy market in Central and West Africa is poised for remarkable growth. This expansion is accelerated by technological advancements in solar panels and energy storage systems and increased investments from both public and private sectors. Additionally, initiatives aimed at closing the electricity demand and supply gaps are further catalysing this market's growth.
